Awards

Outstanding contribution to umpiring by a senior

Instigated by past Umpires Convenor, Libby Waugh, this award is presented to an umpire who has achieved a national badge and participated in a Netball NSW event in a season; and has volunteered her time at carnivals, gala days, representative selections and/or at the club’s grading day.

Outstanding contribution to umpiring by a junior

Instigated by past Umpires Convenor, Libby Waugh, this award is presented to an umpire who has achieved her Umpires Certificate in a season; and has participated in carnivals, gala days, representative selections and/ or at the club’s grading day.

The Melissa Adams Medal

Melissa Adams is the daughter of Club inaugural and life members, Len and Lyn Burgess. Melissa was passionate about her umpiring and is the only umpire from our club having attained her AA badge, in 1991.
The award is presented to a senior umpire that demonstrates the desire not only to assist the Club with umpiring and coaching other umpires to improve their skills, but also to seek to further their own skills to achieve a higher badge.

President's Trophy

The junior version of the Melissa Adams Trophy, the President’s Trophy was donated to the club by Heather Gibbs after stepping down as President around 2002.
The award acknowledges a junior umpire that shows talent and a desire to further their own skills to achieve a higher badge, as well as assisting the Club with umpiring and coaching of other umpires.

The Shining Whistle Award

This award was created after Merrie Cavanagh retired as Umpire Convenor in 2014; and is in recognition of Merrie’s 15 years of service to our club.
Merrie chose the name of the award and determined its criteria. The award is presented to a new umpire who demonstrates reliability, potential, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, listen and implement coaching tips, and has shown improvement throughout the season.

The Wayne Jones Trophy

Wayne Jones loved netball and coaching, and coached numerous WPH teams and HDNA junior rep teams and squads. This love was imparted to his daughters, Cath Jones and Angela Jones-Blayney. Wayne and his family were all passionate about WPH netball, and the award is to honour the contributions he and his family gave to our club. The recipient of this award demonstrates noticeable improvement within their team throughout a season.

The Steve Barton Award

Steve Barton was a member of our club for a brief time before he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2014. Having played the game himself, he began coaching his daughters and other junior teams, with a firm belief in teaching and perfecting the basics of netball. He was keen to share his belief to both junior teams and junior coaches.
This award is presented to a coach that is generally under 18 years of age, shows commitment to the development of fundamental skill development and court awareness, and enables all players to develop personally and have fun whilst at training and during games.

Junior Coach of the Year Award

Inaugurated by the club in 2017, the Junior Coach of the Year award goes to a junior member or cadet player who coached the team with the most outstanding performance throughout the year.

The Stephanie Bruce Award

Stephanie Bruce was a member of our club who tragically died when she was only 17 years of age. Stephanie was a beautiful soul who was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her; and she loved her netball.

A very special award for many members of our club, and one all juniors aged 13- 15 years should strive towards, the award recognises a junior player that demonstrates the ability to give all that one has whilst still showing respect to one’s coach and fellow players, and most importantly, to enjoy the process with a smile!
